If you understand this, you’ll stop all post-interview rejections.

I stumbled upon this technique the hard way, after going through two interviews for jobs I really wanted.

The first job was for an entry level position about fifteen years ago. I had already gone through a take home exam and two rounds of phone interviews. The company had even paid for me to fly across the country for that face to face interview.

But, I didn’t understand what I’m about to teach you, and instead of that lucrative job, which I thought I had in my pocket, I got a cold rejection letter.

The second one was for a general manager role to oversee a small (~100 head) special effects studio. The decision came down to me and another person, and to my dismay, they chose the other guy.

I had lost two jobs because I didn’t understand this key fact:

You need to want a job with 100% of your mind to get it.

How Bad Do You Want It?

You see, for most of us, we don’t want positions wholeheartedly…

Perhaps 30% of us wants the job.

But another 30% would rather stay at home and work on our individual “projects”.

Another 20% resents the fact that we have to get a job and internally despises us for not finding a way out of it.

And another 20% tells itself “I don’t really want the job” just to hedge it’s bets, so that we can console our hurt emotions in case we get rejected.

While your numbers, and your rationales may differ, the gist of it is all the same: we are not “all in” when we head into that interview.

And when you think like this, whether you like it or not, and whether you admit it or not, it doesn’t work.

In very blunt terms. you can’t get the job – especially a very desirable job – when your mind is fragmented like this.

And this isn’t because of some new age “law of attraction” or wishful thinking theory. This is because, people can subconsciously sense your fragmentation.

In fact, your uncertainty becomes both obvious and palpable to them. They no only see it, but they feel it.

This in turn, reduces their trust in you. And if you’ve paid attention to Secrets to Six Figures, trust is a crucial – perhaps the most crucial – piece to getting the job you want.

Remember this: your fragmented mind breaks their trust. And without trust, they won’t hire you.

This is worth thinking about…

Especially if you are making it into interviews and getting rejected at the last minute, you need to pay attention to this mental fragmentation business, and find a way to fix it!

How To Fix Interview Fragmentation

You need to convince your mind that you are 100% in.

And although this is simple, this isn’t trivial. After all, trivial is inconsequential but simple can be powerful…

To convince your mind that you want a given job 100% you need to discover your hidden objections and handle them.

Here’s how you can go about it:

  • Step 1 – Take out a piece of paper.
  • Step 2 – Write down all the reasons why you don’t want a job.
  • Step 3 – Write down all the reasons why you do want the job.
  • Step 4 – Bargain with yourself.

And by bargain, I mean, ask yourself “what would it take for me to not feel this way?”.

For instance, if you are resentful for having to work, ask yourself “what would it take for me not to feel resentful about having to take this job?”.

Your answers may surprise you…

For instance, you may realize that perhaps you are not as resentful of having to work as you are about the fact that you are being a wuss and not negotiating a desirable salary with your offers.

And once you realize this, you can make it your mission to not only get the job, but also to negotiate your highest salary ever. That would not only excite and engage the part of your mind which is undermining you, but also help you get more out of the position. A win-win negotiation with yourself!

Go All In

Whatever your individual objections and reasons may be, the point is – you want to swap your fragmented negative thinking with excitement.

And that isn’t done through affirmations or wishful thinking. It is done by being honest with yourself and negotiating with yourself to make sure that you make your decisions with integrity.

Remember, you can’t go in there at 30% and hope to win. You must go in there 100%.

And you’re in it to win, aren’t you?
